How to Make a Graphic Designer Resume
Presenting the best graphic designer resume will prevent you from ending up on the pile of rejected resumes. So let’s see how you can increase your chances of landing a job interview.
Graphic arts and visual materials, above all, should serve us to communicate information, so we must prevent an avant-garde and creative design from ending up hiding important data.
As graphic designers, we must focus on attracting the recruiter’s attention to our work, keeping in mind the competition in any selection process.
If what we want is to present a resume spontaneously, it is important to surprise and show that they are really missing an opportunity if they do not hire us.
The CV of a graphic designer should always contain the following elements:
- Personal and contact details
In this first block, you must add your name, along with your specialty, telephone number, email and address of your online portfolio.
Add a short introductory text in which you mention your main skills, describe yourself and what you can do for them if they hire you.
- Work experience
Add the companies you have recently worked for, along with the date, the position you held and the tasks you performed. Either within the curriculum itself or in the portfolio, the candidate’s previous experience should be easily found. This section should include information such as the title of the position, the dates and a brief description that explains the tasks and responsibilities that were carried out in it.
Studies carried out that have to do with or complement your training as a graphic designer. Here the candidate must include the study center, the start and end dates, as well as the degree obtained. Special emphasis should be placed on those studies that have been developed in a prestigious design school and dispense with those training that are irrelevant to the position.
Name your skills and the software you use, along with the level of knowledge you have of each one.
When applying for any job in Spain, it is necessary to include a photo in the curriculum vitae. Although the graphic designer CV has its peculiarities in terms of design, creativity and originality, the candidate should not skip this step and will have to add a photo to his graphic designer resume.
It is a fundamental complement to apply for any position of graphic designer. The portfolio is the document (physical or online) that includes both examples of the works that have been carried out previously and personal elaborations. This element is, along with your self-application cover letter, the best side you can show of yourself to recruiters. The best option is to create an online portfolio, something that can be done both through your own domain, and using any of the available web tools. The web portfolio can be attached to the graphic designer curriculum by adding the URL of the domain or it can be included in the CV if it is a web curriculum. Finally, it is highly recommended that the candidate provide a short description of their work, as well as state what their objectives were.
- Mentions and awards
If your work has ever been awarded, mention here those awards you have received in recent years.
